Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Disaster and Emergency Coordination Office hosted an important training session with the aim of building a disaster-resilient society. Organized in line with the official directive sent by the Istanbul Governorship Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate, the “Disaster and Awareness Training for Staff and Students” was held on October 21, 2025, at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Foyer Area.
Pre-Drill Briefing and Practical Preparedness Steps
The training, held with significant participation, provided critical information to university staff, students, and other attendees in line with workplace emergency plans. Participants received practical guidance on how to correctly perform the “Drop-Cover-Hold On” technique, safe evacuation procedures during a disaster, and building evacuation protocols.
Raising Awareness, Reducing Risk
The goal of the “Disaster and Awareness Training for Staff and Students” was not only to deliver theoretical knowledge, but also to ensure that participants are able to act calmly and effectively during a disaster. For institutions located in earthquake-prone areas, such awareness initiatives are of vital importance. During the event at IGU, the importance of both individual responsibility and coordinated collective action was emphasized.
