IGU Psychology Laboratories opened!

Istanbul Gelisim University Psychology Laboratories opened. In the Clinical Psychology Laboratory and the Brain, Cognition and Behavioral Science Laboratory, students will be able to experience the theories they learned in the course and will be able to carry out research with EEG device by doing neuropsychological studies.

Continuing its activities with the vision of "Research University", Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) has added a new opportunity to its students. With the Clinical Psychology Laboratory and the Brain, Cognition and Behavioral Science Laboratory,  students will have the opportunity to see and experience the practical application of the theoretical information. Students who can participate in group therapy programs in the Clinical Psychology Laboratory will be able to conduct neuropsychological studies in the Brain, Cognition and Behavioral Science Laboratory and conduct research with the EEG device.

Neuropsychological studies will be carried out with EEG device

Istanbul Gelisim University Psychology Laboratory will provide a wider study opportunity for the projects and research of students and faculty members. Students will be able to take part in the field with their competencies and competencies by having the opportunity to research, observe and experience the theories they learn in the lessons in the laboratories. Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Department Head of Psychology Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Esra Savaş stated the following: “Our other laboratory is on Brain, Cognition and Behavioral Science. Psychology should also reveal physiological findings in parallel with psychological measurement tools. When studies progress in this way, Psychological Science can catch up with our era. From this point of view, although clinical psychology is the most important center of mental health, we have also established a special area to conduct neuropsychological studies in our IGU laboratories. With the EEG device, our teachers, especially our students, who need this device for writing thesis, will be able to apply it with their advisors. Our undergraduate students will also have the opportunity to experience the research by participating in the research in this laboratory together with their lecturers.”

Training was given on the use, application, display and interpretation of the EEG device on the computer. In this training, it was emphasized that the EEG device can be used functionally in many areas such as changes in mood, sleep problems and decision-making skills. Dr. Esra Savaş, Head of Psychology Department of IGU, who works especially with medical diseases such as cancer, underlined: We are working on psychological traumas that have emerged after many disasters in our country recently with Dr. Gülşen Filazoğlu Çokluk. It is of great importance that we will have the opportunity to work in the psychology laboratory in new projects. This situation will create an opportunity for the implementation of many new experiential projects in the field of trauma. More importantly, we learned that we can see the improvement and change in the brain through the EEG device of the application studies that can be done for some parts of the brain damaged in neurological diseases. In addition to the grief and trauma that we are currently working on, we decided to design a study as soon as possible to improve areas such as memory, attention and focus in individuals with cancer and MS. We hope we get successful results.”
