Support for mental health of earthquake victim students who will take YKS

Emphasizing that educators and psychologists never mentioned the psychological trauma experienced by the students preparing for the university admission exam (YKS) in the earthquake, Educator Abdulkadir Gayretli stated that they are ready to provide all kinds of work and support to overcome earthquake traumas of candidate students, and said: “We will work to minimize anxiety for the future of young people.”

Stated that people must learn to live in Turkey with the fact of earthquake, but also take the necessary measures, Gayretli said: “Everyone should do whatever needs to be done legally and in a humanistic manner, consenting to their right. Minimizing damage and death rates starts with training. Earthquake education and awareness-raising is done in all organizations and institutions in Turkey. We are ready to do our part.”
 
Mentioned that the guidance teachers in the schools and the staff of the Guidance Research Center in the districts should work especially for this region in order to help candidate students preparing for the university exam overcome earthquake trauma, Gayretli said: “With the support of the National Education Directorates, students and their families’ awareness should be raised and they should be able to overcome the fear of earthquake. They should be encouraged to participate in sports or social activities, individually and in groups. The lack of motivation, lack of self-confidence, and anxiety for the future that affect the students preparing for the university exam affect their lives.”
 
Mentioning that he will make a visit for the earthquake zone with Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Member of the Board of Trustees Şule Gayretli, IGU Chairman of the Board of Trustees Abdulkadir Gayretli ended his speech as follows: 
 
“We are ready to provide all kinds of work and support to help prospective students overcome earthquake trauma. We will work to minimize anxiety for the future of young people.”
