Use of reading books as a punishment method was criticized

Istanbul Gelişim University Public Relations Social Responsibility Club students have signed a project to draw attention to the inaccuracy of giving book reading assignments as a punishment method within the education system within the scope of the Library Week celebrations.

With the “One Book, Thousand Values” project, which includes author Ramis Çınar’s interview, signature day and book barter, the students emphasized that reading books is not a punishment but a joyful action that needs to be adopted throughout life.

At the project research phase, the results of the questionnaire were shared with the participants. The research was conducted under the supervision of Istanbul Gelişim University, School of Applied Sciences, Head of Public Relations and Advertising Department Asst. Prof. Emel Tozlu, Istanbul Gelişim Vocational School, Head of Marketing and Advertising Department Lect. Fulya Beteş, and Lect. Atilla Akalın by students Aygül Özdemir, Tuğba Sekmen, Damla Sanal, Yağmur Dadan, Uğur Eryılmaz, Vildan Bükcüoğlu, Duran Yıldız, Yusuf Seyfettin Canbek, Yiğit Karataş, Duygu Başatlık, Rümeysa Kuru.
 
It was revealed that 37 percent of the participants did not attend any book fair or author signature day before. 51 percent of the participants said that strongly disagree with the statement that in the digitalized world the importance and place of the library are affected.
 
"WE ARE HAPPY WITH THE PROJECT"

Guest author Ramis Çınar stated that he was very happy to be a guest at an event organized by the students of the department.

Director of the Istanbul Gelişim Vocational School Prof. Dr. Nezir Köse said: “Under the leadership of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr. Abdulkadir Gayretli and the Rector Prof. Dr. Burhan Aykaç we attach importance to the personal development projects. We are very happy that our students have been interested in reading and literature and carrying out such enjoyable projects in our day when the views of the young generation have decreased with the digitalization. We hope that in the future periods of their lives, they can have the love of reading within them.”
