“We have a strong staff”
Istanbul Gelisim University Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin, who made the opening speech of the exhibition, pointed out the importance of the university's development process, academic achievements and cooperation with public institutions:
“It is also significant that this opening is being held for the first time at a foundation university. Istanbul Gelisim University is in a significant development at both national and international levels. We are one of the four universities that are granted institutional accreditation by YÖKAK. This accreditation documents not only the academic structure, but also competence in all areas from library services to administrative processes.
We hope that this cooperation with the Turkish Historical Society will not be limited to this publication. We believe that we can contribute to the Turkish Historical Society at different levels in line with the expertise of our academicians. We have a strong staff in every field with approximately 1000 academicians and we are at the service of our country."
"For the first time, we are carrying out an opening in a foundation university"
Turkish Historical Society Vice President Assoc. Prof. Yunus Pustu drew attention to the versatile activities of the institution in the field of social sciences and the importance of publishing in these studies. He emphasized that the opening of the library at Istanbul Gelisim University was the first among foundation universities:
“As the Turkish Historical Society, we have been carrying out a wide range of activities in the field of social sciences since the day we were found. An important part of these studies is our publication activities. However, we do not consider it sufficient to produce only academic knowledge. We also care about the fact that the information produced reaches a wider audience and is accessible. In this direction, in 2023, we have implemented a project called ’Turkish Historical Society 100th Year Library'. * Within the scope of our project, we have opened 24 libraries so far. We usually make these openings in public universities. Today, we are opening our 25th library for the first time at a foundation university, which is Istanbul Gelisim University."
The new library strengthens Istanbul Gelisim University's educational approach that prioritizes access to information, while transforming the university library into a more equipped and rich research environment in the field of history. Bringing together the institutional knowledge of the Turkish Historical Society with the university, it will both contribute to the quality of academic studies and enable students to access resources directly. This permanent contribution is considered a meaningful step supporting the university's research-oriented vision.
